Built by athletes
Shaped by real life
Brown Bag Protein was founded by brothers Sam and Matt Boatwright.
Sam’s background is in fitness, endurance sport and coaching. He is ex-military and an endurance athlete whose adventures have included running across America and raising more than £1 million for charity.
Matt came from rugby and a senior business career, bringing the commercial experience needed to turn an idea into a proper independent brand.
Different experiences, but the same view: make good products, keep things simple and build a business you can be proud of.

Why choose Brown Bag Protein?
High quality nutrition, without the unnecessary additives, in packaging that’s kinder to the planet.
Thinking differently
Packaging that protects the bag and the planet
One of the things that bothered us most about sports nutrition was the amount of plastic involved: huge tubs, plastic scoops and unnecessary layers of packaging.
So we deliberately chose a different approach. We minimise unnecessary packaging, avoid plastic protein scoops, and use recyclable, compostable or biodegradable materials wherever we can.
A tablespoon works perfectly well. The world doesn’t need another plastic scoop.
Our roots
Proudly Yorkshire
We’re based in North Yorkshire. It’s a place that inspires us — with its strong community, landscape and down-to-earth people.
Yorkshire born and Yorkshire sourced. We keep our supply chain close to home wherever possible and believe better nutrition can support healthier people and stronger local communities.
For every 100 brown bags sold, a tree is planted in the Yorkshire Dales through our support of the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.
